”Do you believe me?” Sam asked anxiously.

“Yes.” Dean replied shortly, his eyes steadily trained on a random spot on the wall, anywhere that was away from his brother.

“Are you sure?”

“Of course I’m sure,” Dean snapped. “Why would I say it if I didn’t mean it?”

Sam shrugged. “I don’t know.

Sam instinctively shrank back. “I’m sorry,” he whispered.

“For what?”

“For making you mad.”

Dean shook his head, gritting his teeth. “You don’t even know what you’ve done.”

“I’m sorry!” Sam shouted as Dean began to walk away.

Dean silently snorted, not stopping or looking back. “Whatever.”

“You hungry?”

Dean shrugged, not looking away from the road. “Not really. You?”

“A little.”

“You want me to stop then? I think I see a set of Golden Arches up ahead.”

Sam shook his head. “That’s okay. You don’t have to.”

Dean let out a sigh of frustration. “Sam, it’s okay to ask me to stop. You have to eat.”

“I will. When you’re hungry, too. There’s no point in stopping twice.”

“It’s not that big of a deal.”

“I’m fine.”

“Okay.” Dean gripped the wheel tighter, and couldn’t help cruising past the McDonald’s at an impossibly slow speed.

“The weather’s getting bad.”

John casually peered out the window. “It’s not the greatest, but I’ve seen worse. There’s no readon to worry.”

Mary’s smile was tight. “I’m sorry but it’s Dean’s first time driving alone. I can’t help worrying.”

John reached out his hand to his wife and dropped it when she didn’t move. “Dean will be fine.”

Mary anxiously rubbed her arms. “It’s strange. I never thought I’d be worried that my son would end up seeing me. I always thought I’d be happy to have my boys with me.”

John wished he had his wife with him.
